Fostering Healing for Those that have Experienced Loss

We’re Jake and Allie Smith and we've created Consider Lily to bring healing to those who have experienced child loss. Since the loss of our daughter, Lily, ten years ago, we have been on a journey of healing. It hasn't been easy, but God has carried us through deep grief and pain. If you've experienced loss, we want to help you start your own healing journey. We want to provide you with resources. We want you to know you are not alone in your grief.

"The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18

We Want to be Synonymous with Healing

Our mission at Consider Lily is to provide resources for those who have experienced their own loss. If we share our stories, we can be a difference for those who need it most. Here’s why we do what we do.

1 million

miscarriages per year

Fifteen to twenty percent of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage or stillbirth.

1 out of 8

women miscarry

Spontaneous abortion, also known as miscarriage, is the loss of pregnancy in less than 20 weeks. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) estimates it is the most common form of pregnancy loss. It is estimated that 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, and up to 10% of clinically recognized pregnancies.

20,854

fetal deaths

Fetal death refers to the spontaneous intrauterine death of a fetus at any time during pregnancy. According to the CDC, 20,854 fetal deaths at 20 weeks of gestation or more were reported in the United States in 2020.

4.2

per 1,000 births

In 2021, the stillbirth rate rose to 4.2 stillbirths per 1,000 births from 3.9 stillbirths per 1,000 births in 2020 in the UK, a 7.7% increase.

The Story that Birthed our Mission

Nine years ago, we experienced our worst-case scenario. After hours of labor, on May 2nd at 12:01 am, I delivered Lily Alexandra at 5 lbs and 14oz. My doctor placed her into my arms, and I held onto her and never wanted to let her go. She was breathtakingly beautiful. She looked perfectly healthy. I kept thinking it was all a dream and that she would open her eyes, but she never did. Jake and I held her, and waves of sorrow crashed over us that I could never ever put into words. We felt completely alone after the loss of Lily. I searched for resources to help me begin the healing process, and at the time, I came up empty-handed. But God walked me through the process and gave me healing in a way that only He can.

The pain never really left, but we soon felt hope, and peace washed over us. Our pain lessened, and God released us to share our story with others in the middle of their worst nightmare. And prayerfully, we can bring a little light into your darkness.
